2007 links review

I only noticed a few articles tagged ‘golf’ today as I reviewed some of my posts from the year thus far. For a blog that started out on another host as “Golf for Fun and Agony”, that is pretty bad. Nonetheless, it was a good year as far as golf goes. I still didn’t break 80 this year, although I came very close on a few occasions; but I did have a bunch of good times. Our regular foursome is always entertaining and fun and I always look forward to our weekly gatherings. Two of our four have moved in recent years and we don’t see each other as often off the course, so that just makes the matches that much more fun.

Speaking of folks I don’t see as often. I went to Kentucky this year for my 30th high school reunion. I hadn’t been to any of those in the past, and had a blast. We played a scramble at Ducker’s Lake Golf Course. It was a lot of fun playing with folks I hadn’t seen in years and years, including a guy from our high school golf team. It was good to get a round in with him again. We had played so many rounds together over the years and then not seen each other for 30 more of those years, it was great fun. One of the guys I played with was a cousin, a friend from my youth, and my college roommate; I also hadn’t seen him in almost 20 years. After the scramble he and his brothers and myself went for a round at Kearney Hill Golf Links. Kearney Hill is a wonderful links style course on top of a hill just outside Lexington, Kentucky. It is one of those evil Pete and P.B Dye courses that knows a dozen different ways to eat your lunch. While I didn’t score well that day, playing with my old friend on an immaculate and challenging course was probably the year’s highlight for me.

There’s always 2008 coming up where I can break 80, but good friends and good golf courses are rewarding no matter what score is shot.
